Dr. Noor Jaffer

Dr. Jaffer was born in London UK and grew up in Uganda. He obtained his Dentistry degree from the University of London in 1976 before moving to Canada. After a brief teaching career at the University of Alberta, he settled in Calgary where he currently assists his son manage several dental clinics. His son joined the practice in 2002, freeing Dr. Jaffer to pursue his philanthropic passions. Dr. Jaffer has served as the President and International Services Director of his Rotary Club, and on the Board of Directors of both the Calgary YMCA and the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.

In May 2000, Dr. Jaffer went to Afghanistan and Tajikistan as part of FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance Canada’s partnership with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) to evaluate and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian food aid to those in need. He was the recipient of the YMCA Canada Peace Medal in 2001 for his humanitarian work.

Mrs. Zainool Mamdani, B.A.

Zainool Mamdani graduated from the University of Victoria with a B.A. in Human and Social Development with particular focus on Early Childhood Development and Counseling. Zainool’s career began with counseling addicted adolescents and working in the area of Early Childhood Education.

Currently, Zainool is involved in developing an Early Childhood Development Program based on participatory, experiential based learning to help parents and caregivers facilitate enriching experiences for children. Zainool also serves on a taskforce with the United Way’s Early Years Program and the Muttart Foundation that is developing ideas for change in education policy. She volunteers with Calgary Reads and is active in the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC). Early Childhood Development and Parent Education have become even more interesting to Zainool over the years as she raises her four children.

Alnoor Hasham graduated from the University of Nairobi in 1984 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He is a professional engineer in Alberta with over 25 years experience as a Consultant in the Engineering Construction and Procurement Industry. He also runs several local fast food franchises in Calgary with his wife Shenny.Alnoor brings engineering, construction and project management expertise to IREAD. He hopes to mobilize a network of empowered global volunteers and donors who will contribute to the success of IREAD's community-based schools. He also monitors IREAD's Student Support Program.
